SRINAGAR: A wreath-laying event was held on Monday in District Police Lines Anantnag where tributes were paid to the slain Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat resident of who was killed near his residence in Chandpora Kanelwan area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that civil and  Police Officers led by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar-IPS laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid tributes to the slain who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

He said that DIG SKR, SSP’s of Anantnag, Pulwama and Awantipora besides, other officers and colleagues of the slain also laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the slain officer.

The body of the slain was later on handed over to his next of kins for last rites, he added

Earlier police spokesman said, “On Monday at about 1830 hours militants fired upon a police inspector identified as Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat resident of Chandpora Kanelwan near his residence. The officer received gunshot injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries.”

Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. The investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this incident, said the spokesman.
