Yaripora Shootout: Internet services suspended in Kulgam

In the backdrop of a brief shootout at Kujar Yaripora village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, mobile internet services have been suspended in the district for “precautionary measures”.

An official said that the service was suspended to “prevent law and order situation” following an encounter in the district.

Earlier, a militant was killed in a brief encounter with government forces at Kujar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Reports said that a joint team of army and SOG launched cordon at Kujar, Yaripora village. A police officer told GNS that the cordon was launched following credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

As such the joint team fired some warning towards the suspected spot the hiding militants opened fire amid tried to break the cordon. However joint team engaged the militants in a gunfight.

He said that during the initial exchange of firing one militant has been killed and his identity is being ascertained, the officer said, adding the search operation is still going on in the area.
