Police on Tuesday detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin after he marched towards the Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar.
The spokesman said that Malik was hiding from last two days to evade his arrest, however, he along with his supporters’ reached to Lal Chowk to hold a protest on JRL’s call. Malik, according to reports, arrived at Masjid Sharif Koker Bazar before Nimaz-e-Fajr, but soon after he tried to lead his protest towards the Ghanta Ghar he was detained along with his many supporters by the police.
The JKLF spokesman said that Police along with CRPF and other forces had laid a complete siege around Srinagar center and barricades, Razor wire, bomb proof Police vehicles had been placed at every entry and exit point with thousands of personal deployed to stop JRL march.
Police even had cordoned off the Hamza Masjid to stop Yasin MAlik from leading this march but participants stiffly resisted police highhandedness and managed to reach near clock tower where hundreds of policemen and forces personal overpowered them and arrested JKLF chairman and others.
Prior to his arrest, JKLF chairman addressed media personal and condemned the ongoing killing He said that if the killing spree is not being stopped immediately, Jiont resistance leadership (JRL) should be left with no other option but to ask people to launch a full-fledged people’s agitation against it.
JKLF chairman said that today as JRL had called for a peaceful sit-in at Lal Chowk against Kulgam “massacre, ongoing killing spree, custodial killings, killing of pregnant mother along with her fetus, crackdowns, Spree of arrests, beatings, humiliations and other acts of army, SOG, forces and police, but so-called biggest democracy besieged whole Kashmir especially centre of Srinagar (Lal Chowk), arrested hundreds of political activists and used all its force to put a halt on JRL peaceful program. This undemocratic, unethical and inhuman attitude of the government should serve as an eye opener to international community.”
The separatist leadership Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for a march to Lal Chowk today to protest against killings in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of Hurriyat (M) Conference chief Mohammad Umar Farooq said that in view of the Joint Resistance Leadership call for Sit-In Protest at Lal Chowk against Kulgam killings and unabated State violence against people of Kashmir , Mirwaiz will attempt to defy his illegal house arrest to move towards Lal Chowk at 11:30 am.
