SRINAGAR: In an interesting development, banned JKLF leader Yasin Malik has requested the court to summon Rubiya Sayeed so that he can personally examine her in the kidnapping case. The plea was made by him while appearing before the court through a video link.

Malik has already been convicted and given a life sentence in a terror funding case by the court of law.

Reports appearing in the media said Malik appeared before the court virtually in the sensational 1989 kidnapping case and pleaded the lady be personally summoned so that he can personally cross-examine her. If his plea was not accepted, reports said he has said he will go on a hunger strike in jail.

The Rubaiya Sayeed kidnapping case was reopened by the NIA in 2019. It belongs to 1989, and the BJP-supported VP Singh government released five militants in exchange for her release on December 13, 1989. Her father was the Home Minister. Early this year, charges were framed against 10 people including Malik.
