A batch of 4,167 pilgrims left Jammu on Thursday for the Kashmir Valley to perform the Amarnath Yatra.
An official said that 4,167 including women and sadhus, left Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu base camp for Baltal and Nunwan camps under unprecedented security arrangements for amaranth yatra.
He said that so far, 16 pilgrims have died during the Yatra due to natural causes.
The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, at least 2,19,011 pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.
“This is the highest number of pilgrims to visit the Cave shrine during the first forthright in the last four years,” an official said.
