Srinagar: The first batch of annual Amarnath Yatra, which began on today morning was temporarily suspended at both Baltal and Pahalgam route to the holy cave due to heavy rainfall.

Hundreds of Amarnath pilgrims had reached Baltal base camp to start the 16-kilometer long trek to the cave shrine on Wednesday evening. While pilgrims were also stopped at Nunwan, base camp in Pahalgam due to overnight heavy rainfall and the inclement weather forecast.
“The yatra has been temporarily stopped because of bad weather and slippery road conditions. The yatra will resume only after the weather improves, said a senior police official.
