Young woman fished out 20 days after her disappearance

SRINAGAR: A young woman was recovered from a power canal in Kangan, more than 20 days after she disappeared. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.

Reports from Ganderbal said that Shazia Banoo, the 20 years old daughter of Abdul Hamid Bhat went missing from her residence in Druga Tung near Preng. She was not married. The family went to the police station and registered a case. Though police said they have been hunting for the young lady, they could not trace her.

On Saturday, some boys were playing on the banks of Baba Wangi Power Canal near Baba Vayil. They found her body in the canal and informed the locality. Immediately police was informed and they recovered the body. It was later driven to sub district hospital in Ganderbal where autopsy is being carried out.

Family sources said she disappeared on April 16, 2017.

A police officer said the body was recovered at Gutlibagh. “Once the autopsy report is with us we will share the details,” SHO Ganderbal said. It was not immediately known what the police were doing after the family registered a missing case with them.
