A 20-year-old youth was killed while another injured in army firing at Trehgam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses said that army allegedly opened fire after some youth were holding a protest against civilian killings.

Two youth suffered injuries one of them namely Khalid Gafar (20) son of Abdul Gafar Malik received bullet injury in his neck and were taken to nearby hospital, they said.

However, Khalid, a shopkeeper by profession succumbed later, they said.

A police officer confirmed the death and said that investigations will reveal as to how and under what circumstances the incident took place.

Soon after the news about the youth’s killing spread, massive protests erupted in Trehgam and adjoining areas which were going on when this report was filed.
