The relative of a former legislator was admitted in a Srinagar hospital after he was allegedly tortured by Army in a camp at South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

According to family, Jahangir Ahmed Pala son of Abdul Rehman Pala, a resident of Aloora village of Shopian district visited his aunt, who happens to be the wife of Muhammad Khalil Naik, a former CPI (M) legislator from Wacchi Constituency.

“His aunt lives in Chech Hanjin Bahibagh where the army camp of 34 RR is located. After leaving his aunt’s house, he was stopped by soldiers near the camp. Even after informing the soldiers that he is close relative to CPI(M) leader, Jahangir was taken into the camp and tortured ruthlessly there,” said the family members to news agency CNS.

They said that army men has not only fractured his army but he has also suffered back injury. “When they felt, he will die, they handed over him to Behibagh Police Post,” said the family members who are present at Star Hospital Srinagar where Jahangir has been going under treatment.

“There are visible torture marks. We fail to understand why they tortured him. Strict action will be initiated against these soldiers who think they are accountable to none,” the family demanded.

An official from Police Post Behibagh Kulgam confirmed to CNS that Jahangir was handed over to them by the army of 34 RR camp located at Behibagh. “Army told us that Jahangir was with them only for 10 minutes and rest I don’t know anything,” Officer told CNS.
