SRINAGAR: YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was released late on Saturday after being detained at his residence in Gurgaon, according to media reports.

Rathee had reportedly travelled to India to attend a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which was demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.
According to the reports, around 30 plainclothes police personnel arrived at Rathee’s residence in Kendriya Vihar, Sector 56, at about 7.30 am on Saturday and took him into custody. He was subsequently taken to the Crime Branch office in Sector 39, where he remained until his reported release later in the evening.
The reports said Rathee had allegedly declined to comply with police warnings against attending the demonstration, which had not been granted permission.
Rathee was among more than 6,000 people, including Opposition leaders, activists and social media creators, who were detained during a police crackdown on the protest in central Delhi. The demonstrators were demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged electoral roll irregularities.
