PDP MP from central Kashmir, Tariq Hamid Karra, who was the first person to visit Udhampur attack victims at Safderjung Hospital in New Delhi said that Zahid Ahmad Bhat was ‘critical from day one’.

“Doctors told me that Zahid Bhat had swallowed fire flames due to which his respiratory system had swollen,” Karr, who flew to Srinagar on Sunday, told Kashmir Life over phone.

Zahid Ahmad Bhat lost his battle of life Sunday forenoon at the hospital. A communal mob had attacked a Kashmiri truck with petrol bombs in Udhampur in the intervening night of 09/10 early this month.

Narrating his brief chat with Zahid, the PDP MP said, “he was energetic and in fact, more communicative than Showkat (the other victim).”

Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and independent legislator, Er Rashid were the other two persons to visit the victims at Safderjung hospital.

The MP said, “Zahid wanted to shift to any other hospital ward from the ICU as he felt bored in the critical care ward.” “When I asked the doctor about it, I was told that Zahid is young. He must be feeling bored. Ye to Jawaani Kay Bal Say Bol Raha Hai (It is because he is youth).”

“The doctors had told me that these were very critical days for Zahid,” Karra said adding, “he had burn injures in the respiratory system.”

Expressing shock over the death of Zahid Ahmad Bhat, who belonged to Islamabad district of South Kashmir, CM Mufti today announced ex-gratia relief to Next of his Kin.
