Palhallan witnessed violent clashes and complete shutdown after Friday prayers in wake of Hurriyat (g) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani’s call for protests against Zahid Rasool Bhat’s killing.
Reports said that youth took to streets after Friday prayers and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans .However, when youth tried to march towards Srinagar – Muzaffarabad Highway, a large contingent of forces which was already deployed to thwart the protests came into action and lobbed tear gas shells towards crowd. The youth resorted to intense stone pelting.
The pitched battles witnessed excessive use of pepper gas and tear gas smoke shells which has irked local people. This has resulted in many serious health ailments among common masses. The worst hit are elderly people who complained several chest disorders, the locals said.
