SRINAGAR: As vote counting for the Assembly Elections concluded, party workers from the National Conference (NC) and Indian National Congress (INC) took to the streets chanting “Zyuon Ho Zyuon Zyuon Ho (We Won, We Won).”

With NC’s victory in 42 seats and its alliance partner INC securing six seats, the streets of Srinagar echoed with the “Zyuon Ho Zyuon Zyuon Ho” slogans.
Workers from both parties gathered outside the SKICC to celebrate the election results.
NC worker Ajaz Ahmad said, “This is a decision and victory of the people of Kashmir.” He added that the voters had shown faith in the NC and rejected the policies of the past five years.
Another NC worker, Mudasir Khan, said, “The people of Kashmir have been living in open jails for more than five years. Now, they will have their own representatives to address their issues.”
The ‘Zyuon Ho Zyuon Zyuon Ho’ trend started in Kashmir during the assembly election campaign when PDP leader Iltija Mufti mistakenly chanted ‘Zoon Ho Zoon Ho.’
The slogan didn’t remain confined to political workers but spread to common people as well.
As the results were announced, netizens took to social media to mock supporters of political parties that didn’t win in the elections.
One netizen posted, “Elections are temporary, ‘Zoon ho Zoon ho’ is permanent.”
Another netizen commented, “PDP’s decline began when it joined hands with BJP, subjugating the people’s mandate. The only reason PDP stayed relevant among the people in this election was ‘zoon ho zoon ho’!”
In the meantime, NC also posted on its microblogging platform X: ‘Zyuon hov, Zyuon hov, Albaeni Zyuon hov!’ —(KNO)
