Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday condemned arrest of a veteran activist.

“A veteran Jama’at activist from Sopore Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf of eighty years of age has been once again detained under the draconian law of Public Safety Act (PSA), after keeping him under judicial custody for more than three months in district jail Kupwara,” a statement by Jama’at said.

Jama’at has vehemently denounced the “inhuman” attitude of Sopore police and impressed upon the release of Sheikh and other political detains and prisoners.

“Jama’at-e-Islami demands unconditional release of all detainees and political prisoners including those youth who are languishing in jails and police stations on the allegations of stone-pelting during the protests,” the statement added.
