Police on Thursday resorted to teargas shelling to disperse locals who were protesting against a braid chopping incident in Samboora area of Pampore township.

Reports said that the locals of the area caught hold of a braid chopper who cut the hair of a local girl. However, the identity of the victim could not be ascertained yet.

After receiving the information about the incident, a police team from Pampore police station rushed to the spot. However, the protesting locals resorted to stone pelting on the police team.

“After the reported incident we tried to go to the spot. However, local pelted stones on us, and we couldn’t move ahead,” a police official from Pampore police station told Kashmir Life.

Later, police use teargas shells to disperse the protesters, who, however, kept on pelting stones.

Sources said that the accused is in the custody of locals and they are reluctant to hand him over to police. Protests in the area were going on when this report was being filed.
