The Army said on Thursday that an explosion has killed one of its soldiers and wounded three others close to the Line of Control (LoC), the cease-fire line dividing Jammu and Kashmir.

A defence spokesman said an improvised explosive device (IED) went off Thursday in the Poonch sector which killed the army man and injured three more.

“A patrol party of Army was targeted by an Improvised Explosive Device today along LoC Gambhir battalion area,” Defence spokesperson Col Manish Mehta said.

In the blast, one army man lost his life while 3 others suffered injuries, the spokesman said, adding that, the injured have been admitted to the Military hospital for treatment.

A search operation was in progress in the area till the last reports came in, he said.

The deceased army man has been identified as Sepoy Shanker Singh and injured as Lance Naik Mohinder Singh, Sepoy Shamveer and Sepoy Surinder Prasad.

According to defence sources an IED was planted by the suspected militants in a foot track going to a forward Post in Tarkundi forward belt along LoC.

During the switching over the units from old unit of 20 Jat to new unit of 6 Rajput, the IED was exploded through remote control resulting in the killing of one and injuring three army men.

Pertinently, Army and Border Security Forces have planted anti-human mines along the LoC and International Bordor in jammu area to prevent cross border infiltration.

India accuses Pakistan of training and arming militants for attacks in its portion of Kashmir, a charge Pakistan denies.
