SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested a recently recruited militant with a Chinese pistol and live cartridges from Janglatmandi maternity hospital soon after an encounter which left three militants and a security man killed and two others wounded at Qazigund, 80 kms from here in south Kashmir.

“One individual Rashid Ahmed Allai, son of Farooq Ahmed of Hamzapora-Sangam near Bijbehera was arrested from Janglatmandi maternity hospital with a Chinese pistol and live cartridges”, a police spokesman said.

He said Allai was missing since last two days from his house and had joined the Yawar group of Lashker –e-Toiba (LeT).

The spokesman said initial investigations revealed that this individual was with the three militants (since killed) where the encounter took place and managed to escape from the site.

Consequently, he took shelter at the hospital in Anantnag with the help of one of his associates, he said adding Allai along with his associates were intending to “snatch weapon” from the Policemen by attacking them.

“Further investigation is going on to unearth the conspiracy leading to the entire episode”, he said.

He said at the encounter site, bodies of three militants Yawar (local), Furqan and Maviya (foreigners) along with weapons and ammunition have been recovered.

The spokesman said the slain militant group headed by Furqan was involved in a series of “terror crimes” in Anantnag and Kulgam districts including the Yatra bus attack case at Batingo, attack at LowerMunda and also on police party at bus stand Anantnag

Earlier, Ismail, a foreigner, of this group, was killed at an encounter in Srinagar, the spokesman said.

Furqan had replaced Ismail in South Kashmir and was responsible for the recent attacks carried out by LeT, the spokesman said.
