The state-run DD Kashir sprang a surprise on Thursday after the channel aired Bandpeather at a time when other media outlets were exhausting themselves over the demise of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.

Despite owned and run by the state, the channel relegated the news of his death into the routine evening broadcast while continuing airing Naat rendition, Bandpather and etc. during the rest of time.

“Mufti was the head of the state. At least DD Kashmir should have had the humility of not airing these programs which seemed odd considering the sensitivity of the situation,” Mushtaq Ahmad, a journalist told Kashmir Life. “It is unbecoming of a state-run TV. They should have at least broadcast a special report.”

On Friday, the channel, in its flagship program Good Morning J&K, aired discussion with the poet Ghulam Nahi Khayaal who gave an ode to the Abdul Rashid Nazki, a fellow poet from Bandipora who too passed away yesterday.

When contacted, none at the DD Kashir office picked up phone even as busy message had followed when Kashmir Life contacted a minute ago.
