Police arrested a number of separatist leaders and workers during nocturnal raids in Kashmir. The arrestees belong to Hurriyat Conference (G).

Hurriyat(G) sources told Kashmir Life that police raided the residence of Mohammad Shafi Reshi in Baghat area of the city and arrested him. He has been detained in police station Budgam. Imtyaz Hyder, another senior worker of Hurriyat(G)  was also arrested during the intervening night of February 10, and 11. He also has been detained in police station Budgam.

The Hurriyat sources added that Bashir Ahmad of Shone Budgam, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat of Shone, Mohammad Yousuf Nadeem of Shindipora and the brother of Mohammad Yasin Attai,  a worker of the same separatist amalgam was also arrested. He has been identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar. Dar has also been detained in police station Budgam.

Since Saturday, when parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar Jail, Delhi, a number of separatist leaders have been arrested. They include DFP chairman, Shabir Shah and others. Another leader, National Front chairman, Nayeem Khan was arrested a day earlier.

Pertinently senior separatist leader and Hurriyat(G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani has been detained in his Malvia Nagar residence in Delhi.

Police says that the detentions of the separatist leaders and workers are a part of the ‘precautionary measures’. They also call the ongoing curfew as ‘a precautionary measure’.
