SRINAGAR: In its ongoing crackdown against individuals involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, the police have apprehended 10 individuals and impounded an equal number of vehicles in Kulgam and Baramulla.

A police party, led by DySP Hqrs Kulgam and SHO Police Station Kulgam, conducted patrols at Matalhama Kulgam, resulting in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of five vehicles (dumpers) engaged in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh, resident of Sumarbugh, Lasjan; Sameer Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Muhammad Dar, resident of Zanipora, Pampora; Fayaz Ahmad Reshi, son of Nazir Ahmad Reshi; Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar; and Javid Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Sultan Dar, all residents of Lethpora, Pulwama.

In Baramulla, police teams, under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla and SDPO Tangmarg, assisted by SHO PS Tangmarg and IC PP Delina, seized five vehicles (two tippers and three tractors) and arrested their drivers for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals at Shrai Tangmarg and Delina Ghat, Baramulla. The arrested drivers are identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Bumkul Kunzer; Riaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Ahmad, resident of Atipora; Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Mohd; Danish Hassan Khan, son of Ghulam Hassan; and Arfat Ahmad Malik, son of Ali Mohd, all residents of Delina Ghat, Baramulla.

Consequently, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations, and investigations have been initiated. The public is urged to refrain from engaging in any form of illegal mining activities, as it violates government rules. Individuals found participating in such activities will be dealt with according to the law, the police emphasised.
