Srinagar

Nearly after ten years, the area was declared militant free and the army garrison was dismantled in and relocated from the area, the residents of Naghisharan area of Shopian district in southern part of Kashmir were surprised Tuesday morning when they found that the camp has again come up in the area at the same place.

The camp was dismantled ten years ago after the army and other agencies had declared the area “militant free”.

Local sources said that the garrison was housed in a private school structure 10 years ago. “They have now occupied the Naghisharan area which has a large area. They have erected tents there.”

Locals said that the area is surrounded by a large number of residential structures. “We felt scared when we saw the garrison pitched again.”

“We are confused why it reappeared as the area was reported militant free and still there is no existence of militants. Why has it appeared abruptly,” locals of the area questioned?

The garrison is located on Shopian to Islamabad road near Kadder, which is also an extension of the major garrison located at Bihibagh.

Police officials of the area feigned ignorance about the resurfacing of garrison.
