SRINAGAR: No ration card in Kishtwar district was found to be fake, duplicate, invalid, cancelled or deleted during the verification exercise, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly.
The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department stated in a written reply to a starred question by MLA Payare Lal Sharma that 100 per cent Aadhaar seeding of ration cards had been completed across Jammu and Kashmir.
The reply said necessary corrections identified during verification were being made at the beneficiary level, while the category or status of ration cards was being modified in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The department said ration cards classified as “Silent Ration Cards” were not being deleted outright. Instead, they were kept under suspension for the prescribed period, with entitlements restored after the concerned beneficiary or family approached the department and the case was examined on its merits under the applicable norms.
On cancellation or deletion of ration cards, the government said it did not ordinarily cancel an entire card merely because an individual member was found ineligible. Instead, corrections were made at the beneficiary level to protect the food-security entitlements of other eligible members covered by the same card.
The government also said eligibility for ration cards was determined under S.O. 389 of 2021 and was not based on a Chulha Parchi. Beneficiaries are being identified according to the criteria prescribed under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) rules notified through the order.
Regarding the issuance of fresh ration cards, the department said beneficiary targets were determined and assigned by the Government of India, with families initially identified on the basis of Census 2011 data.
It said fresh ration cards under the relevant categories would be issued whenever the Centre communicated revised targets following the inclusion of newly identified families.
The reply also included district-wise details of beneficiaries added and deleted since January 1, 2026, with separate figures for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Priority Households (PHH) and Non-Priority Households (NPHH).
