SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district have detained 11 individuals involved in drug peddling under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

In recent years, Kupwara district has witnessed a gradual increase in illegal drug peddling cases. In response, the Police and Army have tightened their grip on drug peddlers and smugglers.

Providing details, Kupwara Police said that 11 individuals from various parts of the district have been booked under PSA (NDPS-PIT).

The police stated that, due to their persistent and incorrigible involvement in drug trafficking within the district, these individuals were booked under PSA.

The 11 individuals include Syed Azhar Ul Haq, a resident of Kachama Kralpora; Mohd Rafiq Hajam, a resident of Keran Payeen; Asif Ahmad Khan, a resident of Gudsana Hyhama; Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, a resident of Halmatpora Kupwara; Talib Ahmad Shah, a resident of Hakarpora Awoora; Ahmad Hayat Mir, a resident of Darpora Lalpora; Bilal Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Gugloosa; Nisar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Hyhama Kupwara; Bazil Ahmad Mir, a resident of Khurhama Kupwara; Abdul Majeed Kumar, a resident of Drugmulla; and Aftab Hussain Shah, a resident of Bhadarkote Karnah.

The police also mentioned that these 11 drug peddlers were detained and placed under PSA (NDPS-PIT).

Furthermore, the police informed that dossiers for the detention under PSA are being prepared for some more identified drug peddlers. (KNO)
