Twelve structures including shops and rooms were gutted in a massive fire incident last night at Surankote area of Poonch district.

According to GNS, fire broke out mysteriously in the Main Market of Surankote at 11 PM and within no time gutted the 12 structures. The structures include shops and rooms while nearly 14 persons residing in these rooms had narrow escape. However they were rescued by locals and other officials.

To douse the fire, the Fire services’ fire tenders rushed to the spot and with the assistance of police, army and locals the blaze was doused.

Meanwhile, the locals of Surankote Tuesday observed a shutdown against the blaze incident and sought probe. The shops and other business establishments were closed till 1 PM against the incident.

To pacify the locals, the SSP Poonch, Incharge Additional Deputy Commissioner and other civil and police officers rushed to Surankote and assured locals a fair probe would be conducted to know the reasons behind the blaze.
