SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that a total of 17,27,248.16 kanals of State land are under encroachment across the Union Territory, out of which 14,29,200.42 kanals have been retrieved so far.
The information was furnished in reply to a Question tabled by MLA Sham Lal Sharma, seeking details of the current status of encroached and retrieved State land.
According to the figures placed before the House by the Minister in charge of the Revenue Department, 14,00,049.56 kanals of State land in the Jammu division are under encroachment, of which 12,12,287.44 kanals have been retrieved. In the Kashmir division, 3,27,198.50 kanals are reported to be under encroachment.
The cumulative total across both divisions stands at 17,27,248.16 kanals under encroachment, with 14,29,200.42 kanals retrieved to date.
The Minister stated that the retrieval of encroached State land is being carried out as per law, and ongoing drives are in place to reclaim remaining encroachments.
