SRINAGAR: At least 14 people have been killed and 78 others injured during the past two days of US air strikes on Iran, the country’s Health Ministry said on Thursday, CNN reported.
According to CNN, the latest wave of US attacks struck more than 90 targets across Iran, with the US Central Command (CENTCOM) saying the operation targeted multiple locations. Iranian media reported explosions and air strikes in several cities along the country’s southern coast as well as in Golestan province in northern Iran.
In Chabahar, a port city on the Gulf of Oman near the Pakistan border, power outages and explosions were reported. Iranian state media said debris struck a hospital, while two piers and a maritime traffic control tower were also hit.
In Iranshahr, a firefighter was killed in what Iranian media described as a US strike on Iranshahr Airport, which also damaged the airport’s flight operations building and meteorological station.
Iranian state media also reported explosions in the port city of Bushehr. Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said US strikes had targeted facilities in Bushehr and islands in the Persian Gulf.
According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, projectiles struck the coastal city of Bandar Abbas. CNN said geolocated video showed multiple explosions and large fires near the city’s Haqani Port.
Iranian media further reported strikes and explosions on the Persian Gulf island of Abu Musa and in the southern coastal cities of Sirik, Jask and Konarak.
A railway bridge in Aqqala, in Iran’s northern Golestan province, was also hit in what state broadcaster IRIB described as a US strike. While CENTCOM confirmed attacks on locations along Iran’s coastline, it did not mention any operations in northern Iran.
In Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province, three people were killed near the town of Ahvaz, the semi-official Fars News Agency quoted the province’s deputy governor as saying. Several others were also injured in the attack.
State media had earlier reported that eight members of the Iranian Air Force and Navy were killed in strikes on Bandar Abbas and Bushehr on Wednesday.
The latest escalation comes amid continuing hostilities between the United States and Iran, with tensions remaining high across the region.
