Governor N N Vohra has urged the medical fraternity all over India to pool expertise and involve the civil society, NGOs and others to enable all those affected, particularly the poorer segments to be able to receive affordable treatment for infertility and related problems.

Vohra delivered the Presidential Address at the National level Conference on “Advances in Infertility” organized by a group of dedicated doctors in the government and private sectors.

Greeting the participants, many of whom have come from various parts of the country, the Governor hoped that this important conference would provide a valuable opportunity to the participating specialists to share their experiences and evolve newer approaches which would enable early detection and more effective and affordable treatment of infertility.

Governor observed that advances in assisted reproductive technologies, such as IVF, can offer hope to 15% couples who are reported to be suffering from infertility. He noted that the inability to conceive causes untold stress and emotional problems for the affected women and their spouses.

Governor stressed the importance of the wealthy segments of the national economy making meaningful contributions to enable research on fertility and artificial reproduction techniques. He also called upon the medical community, particularly the doctors teaching in medical colleges, to get involved in research on health and medical treatment challenges, particularly on local and regional problems.
