SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed and an Army man sustained injuries on Sunday in a gunfight at Samboora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Official sources told that two militants have been killed in an ongoing operation; however, the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

However, according to the local sources one of the militants is believed to be local namely Ajaz Ahmad Reshi of Samboora.

The sources further said that one Army soldier received a minor injury in the foot and was shifted to 92 Base hospitals for treatment.

Earlier, a joint team of Police, Army’s 50 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kumar Mohalla, Samboora after receiving specific information about the presence of militants.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, triggering an encounter, sources said.

In the exchange of fire, two militants were killed, the official sources said, adding, one trooper two sustained minor injuries.

The sources further said that the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.

However, some sources said that both the militants were affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba.

The operation has concluded and the internet services remained suspended in the Awantipora police and Pulwama police division. (CNS)
