Srinagar:  A two-day workshop on ‘Open Access Platforms in Research’ concluded at University of Kashmir on Wednesday.

The workshop, organized by Department of Library and Information Sciences (DLIS), was attended by faculty members, scholars and students from the University and other academic and research institutions of the country.

Dr Abdul Majid Baba, Head, DLIS said the main objective of the workshop was to make academic community aware of open access literature available online. “The digital era in libraries has set new trends of accessing information and brought to light new services. The Digital era that brought a new word in the scholarly world- “Open Access” has reduced the scholarly barriers to a greater extent,” he said.

Mr Nasir Mirza from University’s Media Education Research Centre deliberated on open access in journalism, while Dr Sumeer Gul from DLIS highlighted contributions of faculty members of University in leading Open Access Research Platforms. Ms. Rosy Jan conducted the proceedings of the workshop while Dr. Shabir Ahmad presented vote of thanks.

Experts delivered lectures on different aspects of Open Access Literature available online for different fields of specialization and also discussed Open on-line journals/books/libraries/repositories /newspapers and archives.
