SRINAGAR: At least 20 people were injured after a mud house collapsed during a marriage function in Malai Kot village of Mahoor tehsil in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night, reports said.
The incident occurred at around 9:30 pm at the residence of Mohammad Ishaq, son of Jalal Din, where a wedding ceremony was in progress. A large number of relatives, guests and residents from nearby villages had gathered for the function when the structure suddenly gave way.
According to reports, the kuccha house collapsed due to the excessive load of people present inside the building, trapping several guests under the debris.
The collapse triggered panic at the venue, prompting local residents and guests to launch immediate rescue efforts. Several people rushed to remove debris and rescue those trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Police personnel from Mahoor later joined the rescue operation and assisted in retrieving the injured from the rubble.
Rescuers said at least 20 people sustained injuries of varying degrees in the incident. The injured were immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Mahoor for treatment.
Officials said most of those who suffered minor injuries were discharged after receiving medical attention, while six to seven injured persons remain under treatment.
Reports said two cattle were also killed in the incident.
