SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday called for the immediate release of PDP leader and tribal activist Talib Hussain, alleging that he had been jailed for protesting against a demolition drive in the Sidhra area of Jammu.

In a post on social media platform X, Mehbooba described Talib Hussain’s arrest as unfortunate and claimed he was being treated like a criminal despite advocating for the rights of poor and marginalised members of the tribal community.
She alleged that Hussain was being targeted for organising a peaceful march against the demolition drive carried out in Sidhra and questioned the action taken against him.
The former chief minister said the treatment meted out to the PDP leader sent a negative message to members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities, who, she said, had consistently contributed to and stood by the country.
Maintaining that the tribal communities deserved justice and fair treatment, Mehbooba urged the authorities to intervene and secure the immediate release of Talib Hussain.
