SRINAGAR: Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has announced her resignation after 13 years in the civil services, describing her tenure as an “unforgettable” journey.
Mittal, who was serving as Special Secretary in the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Department in Lucknow, announced her decision in a personal post on social media on Sunday. She said that although she was leaving her official position, the dream that had brought her into public service would remain with her.
In an emotional account of her journey, Mittal said she grew up in modest circumstances and had once aspired to build a successful life. After studying at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, she took up a job in London but said she continued to feel that something was missing.
“Being away from my country weighed on me,” she wrote, reflecting on her decision to return to India and join the civil services. She said her education, confidence and opportunities were a debt she felt she owed to the country and wanted to repay through public service.
During her administrative career, Mittal served in several important assignments in Uttar Pradesh, including as District Magistrate of Mirzapur and Deoria. She was transferred to Lucknow in May this year and posted as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department.
Her resignation brings to a close a 13-year career in the IAS. In her farewell message, Mittal recalled the experiences and people she encountered during her service, saying that public administration had taught her that behind every government file was a human life and that dignity and justice remained central to public service.
