The group was stopped at a checkpoint during a routine inspection on Sunday while travelling in two vehicles from Jammu. Officials said their documents were checked but they could not provide papers establishing their identity or authorising their stay in India.

Following the verification process, the entire group was taken away for detailed questioning. They are currently being examined by authorities to ascertain their background and the circumstances under which they entered the country.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the group may have crossed into India through Assam and later travelled to Jammu by train before moving towards Kashmir, officials said.

Investigators are also looking into whether anyone helped facilitate their movement across states or provided logistical support. Police said further action would be initiated after the completion of the probe.
