Police recovered a huge quantity of Codeine Phosphate in Shopian and arrested six persons under NDPS act Tuesday.

Police sources said that following a tip off a naka was established at Sofan Naman crossing on Shopian-Srinagar road in the outskirts of the apple town of South Kashmir.

Dy.S.P.HQ Zahoor Ahmad while talking to Kashmir Life confirmed the recovery and arresting of six accused.

“The police party stopped three bikes and during the search 230 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (Rexcof) were recovered from them and six persons were arrested,” Zahoor said.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal son of Gh.Quadir resident of  Pinjoura, Ashaq son Abdul Gani Malik residence of Palepora, Showket Ahmad son of Mohammad Jamal resident of  Rajpora, Jahangir Mir son of Wali Mohammad resident of Rajpora, Reyaz Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad resident of Rajpora and Abid Sheikh son of Lalal-ul-din resident of Rajpora.

Police sources said that Mohammad Iqbal son of Gh.Quadir was released only two days back. He was facing the charges of drug paddling.

Police said that Shamin son of Mohammad Anwar resident of Kounso fled from the spot.

A case under FIR No.102/2014 u/s 8/21NDPS is registered in police station Shopian and the investigation is on.

Station House Officer (SHO) Shopian Javid Ahmad said that police have established a special team to nab the culprits involved in the drug selling and paddling in the district.
