Chairman Hurriyat Conference (m) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday said that as per the statistical data on an average every month 263 cases of violence against women take place in Kashmir. Mirwiaz was ddressing a religious gathering at Alhamza Masjid Hajibagh, Buch Pora.

He said in 2014, the crime against women stood at 3192 which include cases related to domestic violence, dowry and molestation. He said that in the month of May in 2015, three women loss their lives in cases related to domestic violence and suicides wherein such an atmosphere was created where the females were pushed towards taking the extreme step. “Just a day ago a married women was found covered in a pool of blood in her home in a village of Pulwama who has allegedly been murdered,” he said.

Mirwaiz said that Women Police Station in Srinagar was receiving 15 complaints on average everyday from the women who are victims of violence perpetrated either by their husbands or by their in laws against them. He said in 2014, 3000 women registered such complaints in women Police Station while in 2015, the figure so far stands at 1600.

“Such growing incident of violence against women were a cause of worry for all of us,” he said. “Allah has bestowed clear cut rights to women and every Muslims is bound to honor those rights, adding, in Islam like rights of males, rights of female are also well defined. If in our Muslim society such laws are violated by committing crimes against women, it is highly condemnable and regrettable as well,” he said.
