The state government Monday revealed that a total number of 28 civilians were killed while another 163 got injured in cross border firing during the last one year up to September 22, 2015.

This was revealed in response to a question posed by Mian Altaf Ahmad, NC MLA from Kangan.

Giving break-up, government said that in 2014, 14 civilians were killed due to cross border firing, 101 were injured while 4 security forces died and another 16 got injured. In 2015, the government said that 14 civilians died, 61 got injured while border flare-ups killed 6 security forces and injured 14 more.

Giving details about the number of persons killed/injured during the last one year and the current year up to September 22 in militancy-related incidents, the government disclosed that in 2014, 35 civilians died while 70 got injured.

In 2015, it said that 20 persons died and another 53 got injured.  It also revealed that some 47 security forces were killed due to militancy-related incidents in 2015 and 29 died in the following year. The number of injury cases for the both years were 84 and 71 respectively.

Responding to a question on details of compensation, if any, paid in respect of these incidents so far, the government disclosed that ex-gratia of Rs 34.43 lakh and Rs 19.32 lakh respectively have been paid to the next of kin’s of the deceased/injured persons in these incidents. The remaining cases are under process at various stages.
