296 Nodal Officers in JK Trained for Upcoming Assembly Elections

   

SRINAGAR: To enhance the capabilities of its election machinery at the District and Assembly Constituency levels ahead of the 2024 Assembly Elections, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir organised a training programme for 296 Nodal Officers across the Union Territory, which concluded today.

Supervised by the CEO, JK, Pandurang K Pole, the programme focused on equipping Nodal Officers with skills for the effective implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), Media Certification and Monitoring (MCMC), the monitoring of paid and fake news, social media apps, and Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) at both district and constituency levels across Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

Of the 296 officers, 162 from the Jammu Division received training in person at the CEO’s office in Nirvachan Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, Jammu. The remaining 134 officers from the Kashmir Division were trained online from the Jammu office.

Addressing the trainees, the CEO urged the Nodal Officers to work collaboratively to ensure full adherence to the MCC during the Assembly Elections. He also emphasised the importance of effective Election Expenditure Monitoring to ensure transparency and fairness, providing a level playing field for all stakeholders.

The CEO noted that the training will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the programme, national-level master trainers from the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) delivered lectures on MCC, MCMC, paid news, social media apps, EEM, and related topics. Officials from the Expenditure Division of the Election Commission of India (ECI) also conducted a session on the Election Seizure Management System, which was replicated in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
