Relief Commissioner Reviews Election Preparations for Kashmiri Migrant Voters

   

SRINAGAR: Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), Dr Arvind Karwani, on Thursday reviewed the progress of arrangements for Kashmiri Migrant voters in preparation for the upcoming General Elections to the Legislative Assembly.

Dr Karwani received a detailed briefing from Assistant Returning Officers, Booth Level Officers, and other concerned officials regarding the arrangements at the proposed Special Polling Stations, Collection and Distribution Centres, and designated Strong Rooms.

He emphasised the need to ensure that all requisite Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) are available at all designated Special Polling Stations, including permanent ramps, drinking water, and toilet facilities, in accordance with the norms of the Election Commission of India.

Dr Karwani also stressed the importance of reaching out to voters and ensuring all necessary facilitation.

It is pertinent to mention that Special Polling Stations for Kashmiri Migrants are set up in Jammu, Udhampur, and New Delhi. The Assistant Returning Officers are stationed at these locations.

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner directed all officers and officials to work with full dedication and ensure the timely completion of tasks related to the Assembly Elections 2024, with strict adherence to electoral laws, regulations, and the fairness of the electoral process.

Dr Karwani also held a detailed meeting with representatives of major political parties, where various suggestions for facilitating migrant voters were noted.
