SRINAGAR: Customs officials have seized gold rods weighing 3.2 kg and valued at approximately Rs 4.03 crore from an Indian passenger arriving from Dubai at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, according to an official statement issued on Monday.
The passenger, who arrived on October 19, was intercepted by Customs officers following spot profiling, the statement said.
A detailed search of his baggage led to the recovery of the gold rods, which were allegedly concealed inside a floor spring, a mechanical device installed beneath the floor, usually near a door, to control its opening and closing and ensure automatic closure.
According to the statement, the device was allegedly used to conceal the gold and evade detection by Customs officials.
