The data showed that PMFBY enrolment in J&K has increased substantially over the past five years, from 0.91 lakh applications in 2021-22 to 0.92 lakh in 2022-23, 2.46 lakh in 2023-24, 2.08 lakh in 2024-25 and 3.40 lakh in 2025-26.

The number of applications against which claims were paid stood at 0.34 lakh in 2021-22, 0.17 lakh in 2022-23, 0.70 lakh in 2023-24, 0.94 lakh in 2024-25 and 0.96 lakh in 2025-26, according to the state-wise and year-wise data for PMFBY and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS).

The figures were provided in response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2591, raised by Shri Varun Chaudhary, seeking details of farmers registered under PMFBY, crop-loss claims and compensation over the last five years, along with reasons for lower participation in the scheme.

At the national level, the Government said 1,393 lakh farmer applications covering 558 lakh hectares were insured during 2025-26 as on June 30, 2026. This represented an increase of 23.8 per cent in farmer applications and 7.91 per cent in insured area compared with 2022-23.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said PMFBY was a demand-driven and voluntary scheme for both States/UTs and farmers, with participation depending on their perception of risk.

To expand coverage, the Government said it had introduced the AIDE (App for Intermediary Enrolment) smartphone application, rolled out during Kharif 2023, to facilitate doorstep enrolment through insurance intermediaries and provide a paperless and cashless experience.

The Centre also said it was supporting awareness campaigns by States, insurance companies, financial institutions and Common Service Centres, besides organising Crop Insurance Week/Fasal Bima Saptah since Kharif 2021 and Fasal Bima Pathshalas at village and gram panchayat levels.

Other measures include the nationwide ‘Meri Policy Mere Haath’ campaign for doorstep distribution of crop insurance policy receipts, along with publicity through newspapers, local and regional media, information material in local languages, SMS services through the Kisan and National Crop Insurance Portal, and online workshops for farmers and other stakeholders.
