SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has achieved the status of a fully literate Union Territory under the Government of India’s ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) scheme, with a reported literacy success rate of 99.09 percent, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Tuesday.
The achievement makes JK the largest population region in the country to attain the milestone under the ULLAS initiative, according to a post shared by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor on X.
Congratulating teachers, administrators and other stakeholders involved in the effort, Sinha said the Union Territory had joined the league of fully literate States and UTs under the central government’s scheme.
He said education remained the strongest instrument of empowerment and called for continued efforts to promote inclusive learning.
“UT of Jammu Kashmir proudly joins the league of Fully Literate States/UTs under the ULLAS scheme of Government of India. With 99.09 percent success, it stands tall as the largest population region to achieve this milestone,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
“Congratulations to our teachers, administrators and every stakeholder who made this possible,” he added.
Sinha further said, “Let us always remember that education is the truest force of empowerment and our collective responsibility is to keep advancing this mission.”
