SRINAGAR: Only 30 of the 287 Block Public Health Units (BPHUs) sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) have been completed in Jammu and Kashmir, while 185 are under execution, the government has said.
The remaining 72 BPHUs are at the stage of completing codal formalities required before execution, according to the Health and Medical Education Department.
The figures were provided in response to an unstarred question by Javid Hassan Baig, MLA from Baramulla, seeking details of the implementation of the BPHU scheme, completed or abandoned structures and the status of execution.
The department said the BPHU component of PM-ABHIM is being implemented across J&K and that district-wise and facility-wise details of physical and financial progress have been provided in an annexure to the reply.
The works have been entrusted to Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (HSCC), a Government of India public sector undertaking.
The department said the works were awarded to HSCC through letter No. SHS/NHM/J&K/PM-ABHIM/7499-7509 dated July 4, 2023, followed by an agreement signed on August 19, 2023.
The tendering process had been initiated through NIT No. SHS/NHM/J&K/Estt./5280-87 dated May 26, 2023.
Against a total project cost of Rs 186.36 crore, the government said Rs 92.43 crore had been released to HSCC so far.
The department said the work-wise status, including completed, ongoing and slow-moving projects and the reasons for slow progress, had been provided in Annexure A.
The reply was issued by the Health and Medical Education Department and endorsed by the Minister-in-Charge.
