The fresh spell of snowfall across the Valley has damaged around three hundred power transformers.

Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD) Kashmir division, Shahnaz Goni said that more than 300 transformers developed technical snag due to the heavy snowfall from past couple of days.

She added that men and machinery have been pressed to get the damaged transformers repaired on war footing basis.

“Our priority is to restore power supply to the affected areas. The number of transformers damaged till Tuesday was 300. The number may go up as we have been receiving reports of heavy snowfall in north Kashmir,” Goni informed.

“The officials are on ground and reassessing situation. Field staff is active on ground while senior officials are monitoring the process of restoration power supply to affected areas,” she said.

She added that damage to transformers varies. “Somewhere it is damaged while at few places it developed minor technical snags. It would take a few days to repair the all damaged transformers,” she informed KNS.

Chief Engineer further appealed to the consumers to cooperate with the department and use electricity judiciously.

Pertinently, the Valley continued to receive fresh spell of snowfall since the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday while the weatherman has predicted more snow in the next 24 hours.
