After a relentless pursuit by the Barzulla family, authorities have handed over the body of slain militant Mudasir Ahmed to his family in Barzulla area of Srinagar city, after 32 days.

An official said that the body of the slain militant has been handed over to his family for last rites.

“We have received the body of Mudasir and we are preparing to bury him soon at our ancestral graveyard in Barzulla,” said a family source.

Earlier, the family of the slain militant had staged many protests seeking mortal remains of their son, however, the family was made to wait until the results of DNA test came out.

According to the family, the Mudasir was killed by government forces during an encounter in Kachahama area in the frontier district of Kupwara on June 29. The family said that they were informed by “unknown” sources that the militant killed in Kachhama forests is their son Mudasir Ahmad, later the family staged many protests in Press Colony Srinagar demanding the body of their family member.

On June 4, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, father of the slain militant along with other family members had traveled to Kupwara for DNA tests to confirm the identity of the slain.

Since today afternoon heavy contingent of forces were deployed at many sensitive points in the area to avoid any untoward incident. Meanwhile, restrictions have been imposed in Barzulla area to thwart any protests.
