By March, as many as 32 schools in Srinagar will have smart classes, a meeting presided by DC Srinagar Dr Farooq A Lone was informed.
Of these, 22 schools approved under RMSA include BHS Bakshipora, BHS Balhama, BHS Braine, BHS Dara, BHS Natipora, BHS Pantha Chowk, BHS Rangteng, BHS Kralkhud, BHS Sonwar, BHSS Batmaloo, BHSS Nawakadal, BHSS Nawpora, BHSS Zainakoote, GHS Balhama, GHS Harwan, GHS Raiteng, GHSS Chanpora, GHSS Nawakadal, GHSS Nishat, GHSS Soura, SP Hr Sec School and MPML Hr Sec School.
Besides, 10 schools HS Sangam, MS Chonchfakir, GHS Umerhair, BMS Narpora, BHS Lalbazar, BMS Zadibal, BMS Tulsibagh, BHS Barthana, GMS Kothibagh, BMS Baba Ghulam-Din will be covered under SSA.
The meeting was informed that total cost of project for each school under RMSA is around Rs 8 lakh including electrification and Vinyl flooring while as under SSA each school would get Rs 6 lakh. National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) is implementing the project.
Visiting Kathua, education minister Naeem Akhtar called for adopting e-learning to provide knowledge connectivity to students.
For augmenting the standards of government schools and improving the quality of education through technological interventions, the minister said e-learning is a major intervention which will raise the level of education, literacy and boost socio-economic development. He further said to achieve optimum academic results teachers should enjoy teaching and shift to latest teaching aids. “Local and folk languages have strong connect among masses but to equip oneself with latest teaching terminologies, learning English is the need of the hour,” the minister said.
The minister directed CEO Kathua to make all the KGBV (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya) residential and introduce new vocational courses viz. Basholi Painting, IT & Networking, Pashmina Weaving, Art & Music in all the 4 KGBVs of Kathua under skill development programme. He further said that team of teachers will analyze the aptitude of students so that they can be trained accordingly.
He said it is high time to integrate schools to provide better exposure and environment to the students so that they can interact with the fellow students and teachers for better learning and directed CEO Kathua to integrate Higher Secondary School Machedi, Lowang, Plassi and Lohai-Malhar and start nursery classes from the next academic session. He further directed CEO Kathua to connect CAL Centres and ICT with internet immediately.
Education minister also directed all the Principals of Degree Colleges to utilize computer labs for conducting short term community courses after college timing to help them connect to the e-world and generate employment.
Meanwhile, Private Schools Association of Kashmir has asked its member schools to ensure 100 percent attendance of students and teachers during the relaxation period so that maximum benefit is derived from the limited time.
The Association said that its schools will undertake evaluation and assessment of students so that need of every individual student can be gauged and remedial measures be taken.
The Association said that various parents had complained that some schools were closed during the relaxation period, which won’t be tolerated by the Association. The Association urged the Schools not to lose even an hour of the relaxation period.
The Association asked the government not to announce winter vacations without taking in confidence private schools and the parents.
Besides, the association said the schools are also going through a hard phase and during the last two years 152 schools were closed.
