The Minister of State for Technical Education and Power, VikarRasool Saturday replying to a question by Ghulam Nabi Monga, said that during the current financial year ending January 2013 as many as 34753 illegal electricity connections have been regularized by the PDD.

The Minister said that as far as action against wrong doers is concerned, same is being taken as per stipulations of J&K Electricity Act-2010. Fine as admissible under rules (relevant J&K SERC traffic and Supply code regulations) is being imposed against the erring consumers/illegal connection holders.

“By this year ending January, 2013 as many as 58532 inspections have been conducted by inspection squads and fine to the tune of Rs. 12.37 crore have been imposed. An amount of Rs 8.11 crore as fine has been recovered ending January, 2013 for the current financial year,” said Vikar.

The Minister said that regular disconnections of defaulters are being carried out to affect recovery of pending electricity dues from the consumers. Recently, disconnection notices under Section 50 of J&K Electricity Act were issued through print media to consumers having huge huge arrears (above Rs. 5 lakh) to clear the outstanding revenue arrears.
