359 candidates belonging to various political groups here have so far filed their nominations for the coming assembly elections. During the 2nd phase of polls being held on 2 December 209 candidates have filed their nominations for the coming assembly elections being held in 18 assembly segments of the state.

According to the KNS correspondent, the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations is November 17, and that eight each candidates have filed their nominations for the Humshali Bugh, Kulgam, Humshali Bugh, Devsar, Karnah, Chenani Assembly seats.  10 for Lolab; 11 for Gulabgarh; 12 each for Kupwara, Langate,Handwara, Udhampur, Gool Arnas,Ramnagar, Surnakote.  15 candidates have filled their nominations for Haveli, 17 each for Noorabad, Reasi,  whileas 16 for Mendhar Assembly constituencies.

There are also four ministers for the NC congress coalition among the 209 candidates who have filled the nomination papers. The ministers who are contesting the coming assembly elections in the 2nd phase Mir Saifullah (national conference) from north Kashmir’s Kupwara. Ajaz Ahmad Khan of Congress from Gool Arnas, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan from Handwara and Sakina Itoo, social welfare minister from Noorabad Assembly constituency.

Pertinently, 150 candidates had earlier filed their nominations for 15 assembly  segments for 1st phase of elections,  on November 5 including incumbent ministers and legislators for the coming assembly elections.

Candidates who filed their nomination papers for the 1st phase from the ruling coalition include Mian Mohammad Altaf, Nawang Ringzin Jora, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Abdul Majid Wani and Vikar Rasool.

From the opposition Qazi Mohamad Afzal from PDP filed nominations from Ganderbal while as the former minister and Congress leader Mohammad Shrief Niyaz , Congress’s Usman Majid, former Div Com Kashmir Mehboob Iqbal and former bureaucrat Bashir Ahmad Runiyal. Meanwhile, reports said the Congress and PDP candidates for Bandipora, Usman Majid and Nizamu din reached the spot at the same time with their supporters who started beating each other by the sticks holding their respective flags.
