SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said that it has successfully bio-remediated 4.26 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste dumped at various landfill sites across the Union Territory.
In a written response to a question by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz in the Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also in charge of the Housing and Urban Development Department, informed that 33 mechanical segregation machines are currently operational in J&K for effective waste management.
He assured that additional machines are being procured under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) as per the approved plan, following the proper procurement process.
So far, 4.26 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste dumped at open landfill sites across various districts of the Union Territory has been successfully bio-remediated, in accordance with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016. (KNO)
