SRINAGAR: A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Afghanistan early Monday, with light tremors felt in parts of Kashmir, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake occurred at 1:57:24 am IST at a depth of 220 kilometres, with its epicentre located at 36.602°N latitude and 71.084°E longitude in Afghanistan. The NCS has classified the event as reviewed.
The epicentre was reported about 73 kilometres southeast of Fayzabad in Afghanistan. The deep-focus earthquake was also recorded as felt in the NCS’s earthquake monitoring data.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage following the earthquake.
The tremors were reported in parts of Kashmir, although details about the intensity of shaking in different areas were not immediately available
