SRINAGAR: The 2026 Asian Games concluded in Nagoya on Sunday, with India finishing fourth in the overall medal standings after securing 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.
The continental multi-sport event, held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, featured competitions across 43 disciplines.
The closing ceremony was held at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, formally bringing the Games to an end after more than two weeks of competition.
Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda, who won two gold medals and a silver at the Games, carried the Indian flag during the closing ceremony.
The ceremonial torch and flag from the inaugural Asian Games were handed over to representatives of Qatar, which will host the next edition in Doha in 2030, marking the transition from Nagoya 2026 to the next Games.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian contingent, praising its determination, passion and sporting spirit.
He also congratulated the medal winners and expressed hope that their performances would inspire further achievements while helping strengthen sport at the grassroots level.
